Fall 2024
Over the years, we’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with many local artists. Among them is Jerry Kathol, affectionately known as 'The Gov,' a nickname earned from his childhood friends who noticed his knack for overseeing card games. The name stuck and has become part of his legacy. Gov has been an invaluable contributor to our Art Alley efforts, designing at least two murals, including one he completed entirely on his own. We’re thrilled to partner with him once again, along with the Dawes County Fairboard, to renovate the stage and revitalize it with a distinctive mural that only Gov’s creative vision can bring to life
Summer 2025
Artist David Warren came to northwest Nebraska working as an agent for a company leasing land for uranium mining. David had a MFA from UCLA and had spent time in Japan. He created an original mural of the bluffs and buttes of Dawes and Sioux Counties inspired by works he had seen in Japan. The mural provides a “walkable” experience to the eye. As David moved on to new adventures he left prints of his work in the care of Sandy Scofield and Lue Jensen. Eventually they lost touch with David but continued to sell prints and safeguard the funds expecting to reconnect. After almost 40 years with no contact they decided to donate the prints and those funds to a project honoring the artist. Chadron’s Art Alley is pleased to carry on his legacy by creating a rendition of his work to be displayed prominently in the west side of Chadron. Thank you David, wherever you are.
Summer 2025
With the addition of a drive-through at Just Love Coffee, customers will soon have a convenient new way to grab their favorite treats. Along with this enhancement, a few unique touches will be added to highlight their fun flavors and prime location at Main and Highway 20. We’ll be collaborating with their corporate team to create a practical design that also allows us to infuse some local, creative flair! A big thank you to Jacquelin J. for creating the Capstone Advocacy murals, which unfortunately had to be taken down due to the construction of the Just Love drive-through. We hope to welcome her back in the future as we continue our Art Alley efforts.
-TBD-
We're excited to collaborate with the Northwest Nebraska Trails Association, the Rails to Trails Group, and the local owner of the Blaine Hotel to showcase the history of the 'Great American Horse Race' on the east-facing wall. This project will not only highlight this significant piece of history but also bring visual media and public art to life, enhancing the Downtown Community Plaza space. The mural will be visible, engaging, and interactive, perfectly complementing the ongoing 'Cowboy Trail' efforts led by Rails to Trails and Northwest Nebraska Trails Association, NNDC and The City of Chadron enhancing and construction the Downtown Plaza, along with the renovation and re-birth of Railraod Park.
